This course is suitable for professionals working in business, industry and government who hold a first degree in the mathematical sciences or a cognate numerate discipline.
This Mathematical Sciences modelling course for Business, Industry, and Government is aimed at innovators and practitioners in industry who are keen to get hands-on experience of using techniques from the mathematical sciences to build and solve models to address R&D or operational questions.
Based on the highly successful UK Graduate Modelling Camp, this course has been designed to develop a broad range of problem-solving skills. Participants will work with experienced academic mentors on problem assessment, building mathematical-science-based models, model solving, and critical assessment of solutions.
The course is designed to strengthen participants' ability to apply mathematical sciences techniques in professional settings.

Participants will be encouraged to work on challenges outside their normal area of expertise, helping them develop adaptable problem-solving skills that can be applied across a wide range of sectors.
The course takes place over four days and is delivered in person in Oxford. It provides experiential learning under the guidance of an experienced expert mentor from academia.
On the first morning of the course, each mentor will present a challenge. Participants will then form teams and select one challenge to work on for the remainder of the week.
Working under mentor guidance, teams will tackle their chosen challenge for the remainder of the week, building and solving mathematical models and preparing presentations of their work.
Scientific communication forms an important part of the experience and participants will deliver presentations twice during the course.
The course is led by Professor Chris Breward (Scientific Director of the KE Hub and applied mathematician from the University of Oxford). He has extensive experience of building and solving mathematical models across a vast array of applications and has led the UK Graduate Modelling Camp since 2010.
